Royal Enfield launches Bullet Electra

CHENNAI, AUG. 23. The 1,000-crore Eicher group is targeting to
increase motorcycle sales by introducing more variants frequently
by Royal Enfield, one of the group companies.
A sustained focus on segment-wise sales had helped achieve a
growth of 22 per cent in volume against an overall growth of 2
per cent in the light commercial vehicles segment. In the tractor
segment, Eicher Tractors expects a turnaround in its performance.
Despite successful marketing in the northern belt, in the midst
of a downtrend, the company made a mark in the southern markets,
according to Mr. S. Sandilya, group chairman and chief executive
of the group who was here in connection with the launch of
`Bullet Electra' a 350 cc bike by Royal Enfield.
Mr. Siddhartha Lal, Chief Executive, Royal Enfield Motors, said
the company had achieved an 18 per cent growth in the motorcycle
segment. The company, a leader in the power bike segment, aims to
launch more products catering to different segments. As such, the
company planned to market Electra initially in the domestic
market though other motorcycle models are exported to the U.S,
the U.K and European countries.
Electra, which is powered by a 350 cc, 4-stroke engine that
delivers 18 bhp and features CDI ignition, will appeal especially
to youth. It will be available initially in three colours -
silver ash, riviera red and amazon blue. and priced at Rs. 56,931
ex-showroom in Chennai, Mr. Lal said.
The combined capacity of Chennai and Jaipur plants is 39,000
motorcycles annually. In the first quarter, it had marketed about
3,500 motorcycles. The company intends to increase the present
production capacity of 2,000 units to 2,600-2,700 units by the
year end, he said and added that there would be further increase
in the next year and most of the capacity would be utilised.
