Stunning crystalware
DEEPEST BLUE, green eau de Nil, even flecks of white - all the
colours of the sea have been captured in harmony in a stunning
collection of crystal glassware and decorative objects which are
on display at a niche exhibition called `Tides' at SSQ, 7,
Wallace Gardens Road, off Khader Nawaz Khan Road. The exhibition
is an `Aria' first since this is the first time that coloured
lead-free crystal is being produced in India with Swedish
collaboration.
The shapes and forms of the glasses, goblets, wine glasses and
vases are enchanting. Elegant, tall, flawless crystal glasses in
deep blue, blue wine goblets with curvy stems and a fantastic
twist in the stem to make a drinking glass are sheer works of
art. Loveliest of blue platters double up as flat flower floaters
and crystal animal forms, candle stands and crystal flowers make
Aria's blue phase special for the residents of Chennai.
Marine life is captured in magical miniature glass sculptures of
life-like porpoises, fish, tortoise, sea anemones and so on. The
variety in superbly sculpted fish entice with the shading of
blue, and exquisite sculpting.
The decorative objects make perfect objets d'art and a definite
statement of handcrafted contemporary chic. Indeed, coloured
crystal has never looked as seductive and beautiful as in Aria's
`Tides'.
`Tides' will be on at SSQ till September 3.
