NDA coordination panel meet on Monday

NEW DELHI, AUG. 24. A meeting of the NDA coordination committee is scheduled for Monday to take stock of the political situation in the wake of the Tehelka tapes revelation and the handling of the issue, NDA sources said here today.

The meeting, to be chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, is likely to discuss the progress made by the four- member committee, headed by the NDA's convenor, Mr. George Fernandes, to draw up a code of conduct for the alliance partners, the sources said.

The other members are Mr. Sikander Bakht, Mr. Arjun Charan Sethi and Mr. Murasoli Maran.

The need for such a code arose in the wake of the criticism by some of the allies, especially the remarks by the Shiv Sena MP, Mr. Sanjay Nirupam, on the UTI muddle.

It was also felt that the coordination committee should meet to discuss the entry of new members or re-entry of former partners such as the Trinamool Congress which has been trying to rejoin the coalition.

On Tuesday, Mr. Vajpayee would host a dinner for the Members of Parliament belonging to the alliance.
