Musharraf keen to meet PM

By Atul Aneja

NEW DELHI, AUG. 24. The visiting Pakistan Commerce Minister, Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, has conveyed to the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, his President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf's keenness to confer with the Indian leader on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly session next month.

Mr. Dawood conveyed Gen. Musharraf's request when he called on the Prime Minister on Thursday, highly placed sources in the Government said. The meeting, which Mr. Dawood sought only after his arrival, materialised on the intervention of the Commerce Minister, Mr. Murasoli Maran.

An External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, however, said Mr. Dawood only exchanged pleasantries with the Prime Minister.
