President advised rest
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI. AUG. 26. The President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, has, on
the advice of his doctors, cancelled all his public engagements
for the next fortnight.
According to a press release issued by Mr K. Satish Nambudripad,
deputy press secretary to the President, the doctors attending on
Mr. Narayanan have advised him not to undertake any public
engagement for the next two to three weeks, in order to recoup
completely.
Mr. Narayanan was admitted to the Army Research and Referral
hospital in July due to a viral infection but later developed
post viral muscular weakness. He returned to the Rashtrapati
Bhavan after three days but was advised to take a month's rest.
On his return to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mr. Narayanan hosted a
reception for freedom-fighters on August 9 and later the
Independence Day reception on August 15. However, he was later
advised by the doctors to take complete rest.
