200 parks developed, 60,000 saplings planted

BANGALORE, AUG. 26. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike as part of
its ongoing programme, ``Green Bangalore'', taken up to restore
the City's lost greenery, has developed 200 parks out of the
total 600 parks, the Mayor, Ms. Prema Cariappa, has said.
Speaking at a function organised by the Mahanagara Palike to
inaugurate several development works in Industrial Estate area
(Ward No. 21) here on Sunday, she said over 60,000 saplings had
been planted under the tree plantation programme so far.
She urged people to take up extensive tree planting all over the
City and sought people's active participation in the development
programmes of the Mahanagara Palike.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramachandre Gowda, MLC, criticised
the State Government's move to reorganise ward-wise reservation
for the forthcoming Mahanagara Palike elections. ``The
reservations should be fixed at least for five terms (25
years),'' he said.
The Rajajinagar MLA, Mr. S.Suresh Kumar, wanted the Government to
grant approval for a grade separator at Rajajinagar Entrance
(Near Sujatha Theatre) to ease vehicular movement.
Sri Balagangadharnath Swamy of Adi Chunchanagiri Math inaugurated
the development works in the area represented by former Leader of
the Opposition, Mr. Gangabhyraiah.
A community hall in Rajajinagar 6th Block, a new library
building, a pump house and a sump in Police Colony, a basketball
court at Agrahara Dasarahalli's Dr Ambedkar Stadium and an office
for the Mahanagara Palike's Health Department were inaugurated.
The BMP Commissioner, Mr. Ashok M.Dalwai, the former Mayor, Mr.
M.Ramchandrappa, MLC, Ms. Vimala Gowda, ruling party leader in
the BMP Council, Mr. P.R.Ramesh, the Leader of the Opposition,
Mr. S.K. Nataraj, corporators, Ms. G.Padmavathy and Mr.
B.V.Ganesh, were present.
