Row over 'obscene calls' takes new turn
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 26. The controversy over `obscene calls' made to
the wife of Visakhapatnam Superintendent of Police, Mr. Athul
Singh, took a curious turn on Sunday with the police agencies
finding out that the bills of the cell phone from which the
alleged obscene calls originated were cleared by an institute
reportedly owned by the family members of Mr. Krishna Rao.
The arrest of Mr. Krishna Rao on August 23 in the city by a
Visakhapatnam police team led to a major controversy with the
police authorities here swinging into action and intercepting the
Visakhapatnam Police vehicle on a complaint that Mr. Krishna Rao
was kidnapped. The Three Town police of Visakhapatnam registered
a case against Mr. Krishna Rao on a complaint filed by Mr. Athul
Singh.
The police sources say that an educational institution reportedly
belonging to the family members of Mr. Krishna Rao had paid the
bills of the AirTel mobile phone from which the calls originated.
The investigator had also collected records pertaining to calls
made and received from that phone establishing that calls were
made to the mobile phone of the SP's wife. It may be recalled
that the family members of Mr. Krishna Rao maintained that the
mobile phone was given away Mr. Krishna Rao to his friend a Mr.
Sampath hailing from Alwal.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. P. Ramulu said
that the Visakhapatnam police would take care of the
investigation as the case was registered by them.
