FIIs net buyers in equities

MUMBAI, AUG. 26. The Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in equities at Rs. 47.70 crores ($10.1 million) even as they preferred to stay away from the debt market for the trading week ended August 24.

The FIIs, in the whole trading week, only transacted in offloading activity worth Rs. 31 crores ($6.6 m) for debt on August 20, thus remaining net sellers at the same amount, according to data available with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The foreign funds were net buyers on two days and net sellers on August 21 and 23.

The market remained closed on August 22. Mutual Funds, on the other hand, were net sellers in equities at Rs. 31.95 crores and net buyers in debt at Rs. 124.67 crores as per the data for three days beginning August 20.

On August 24, the foreign funds bought and offloaded equities worth Rs. 190.20 crores and Rs. 132.3 crores respectively, thus turning net buyers at Rs. 57.9 crores ($12.3m), the highest for the week.

MFs bought debt instruments worth Rs. 155.63 crores while selling to the extent of Rs. 82.90 crores, netting purchases of Rs. 72.73 crores. They abstained from any activity on August 21.
