Charred body of woman found

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 27. The body of a 48-year-old woman was found in a charred condition in the courtyard of her house at Manjancode in the Vattapara police station limits this morning.

Police identified the deceased as Nalini, wife of Gopi Asary of `Sivasakthi House'. Officials said it was yet to be confirmed whether Nalini was murdered or if it was a case of suicide.

Police officials who conducted a preliminary round of interviews with Nalini's relatives said the woman had woken up in the wee hours of Monday to leave for her daughter's house in the city. At around 6 a.m., the relatives had found Nalini's charred body in the courtyard. The officials said they were relying on scientific and circumstantial evidence to reconstruct the chain of events that led to the mysterious death of Nalini.

The police investigators have sought the help of experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to crack the case. A team of FSL experts inspected the scene of the crime and gathered evidence, including soil samples.

Later, a postmortem examination was conducted on the body of Nalini at the Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police said they would be taking the detailed statement of Nalini's husband and other inmates of the house. Other verifications would follow once the FSL experts give their opinion after the scientific examination of the evidence.
