Moral bankruptcy
Sir,- The vehement reaction, both in Parliament and outside, to
Tehelka's methods only reflects the hypocrisy and moral
bankruptcy prevailing in our society. What Tehelka did may be
illegal; they did not do this for any personal gain, but in the
national interest to expose corruption in defence deals.
Corruption is so pervasive now that people take it for granted.
Prostitution in polity is not new to our society. It thrives in
every nook and corner of the country. In a supposedly
conservative society with strong moral values, its very existence
and the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS speak otherwise. Going after
Tehelka for its alleged illegal acts only exposes the moral and
cultural corruption of our society.
T. Balakrishna Reddy,
San Diego, U.S.
