TCS forays into bioinformatics

CHENNAI, AUG. 27. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global
software solutions and consulting services enterprise, has
entered into a multi-year collaborative agreement with the
Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics
(CDFD), a leading R&D laboratory under the Department of
Biotechnology, Union Government. The agreement was signed on
August 25 in New Delhi in the presence of Dr. Murli Manohar
Joshi, Union Minister for Science and Technology, according to a
company release. TCS and CDFD will work together in the rapidly
evolving area of bioinformatics, which is an interdisciplinary
science where computational methods are used to analyse
biological information.
The agreement envisages that TCS and CDFD will collaborate in
bioinformatics and genomics related areas.CDFD will assist TCS in
developing specialised software products in identified niche
areas of biotechnology. In addition, TCS and CDFD will together
offer a top-quality intensive training programme to select TCS
trainees.
Dr. M. Vidyasagar, executive vice president in charge of advanced
technology at TCS, has stated that ``we are very excited to be
collaborating with CDFD, which is young, dynamic and India's
fastest growing laboratory''.
