Bihar flood situation grim
PATNA, AUG.28. The flood situation in Bihar continued to be grim
today with the major rivers in spate and the Chief Minister, Mrs.
Rabri Devi, has sought an appointment with the Prime Minister for
financial help in view of the flood and drought situation in
different parts of the State.
The situation aggravated in Gopalganj district where the Gandak
river breached its Sallehpur-Tandaspur embankment flooding more
than 300 villages in the home district of the Chief Minister.
Swirling waters also entered Gopalganj town.
Fresh areas were submerged in Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul and
Saharsa following further rise in water level of rivers like
Kosi, Kamala Balan, Bagmati and Kreh, sources said.
According to a Central Water Commission report, the Ganga was
flowing 6 Cm and 47 Cm above danger mark at Gandhighat and
Kahalgaon while the Kosi crossed the danger level at Kursela and
Baltara.
