8 weightlifters flee dope test
NEW DELHI, AUG. 28. Close on the heels of Kunjarani Devi testing
positive for a banned drug, at least eight weighlifters at the
National Institute of Sports, Patiala, have run away from the
academy for fear of getting caught.
On August 24, the lifters, all men, had gone for selection trials
for the training camp to be organised for the Afro-Asian Games
where they came to know about Kunjarani being banned for six
months after a stimulant `strychnine' was found in her urine
sample, a Sports Authority of India source told PTI here tonight.
The probables developed cold feet when they came to know that
they too would be dope tested before being included in the camp
and slipped away the next day, the source said. The selection
trials were to be conducted in Patiala on August 24 and 25.
