Tension in U.P. town
SITAPUR, AUG. 28. Communal tension today gripped Mahmudabad town
of Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district as a group of students went
on the rampage torching several shops in protest against the rape
of a school student, allegedly by some members of a particular
community last evening.
The District Magistrate, Mr. B.D. Singh, told PTI here that the
student of the Government Girls Inter-School was raped while
returning home last evening.
Enraged students took out a procession in the town, forcing the
closure of the market and schools and later indulged in arson.
Ten persons have been arrested.
