Cauvery: T.N. to wait for outcome of meeting
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, AUG. 28. The Tamil Nadu Government would ``prefer to
wait'' till Karnataka informed about the schedule for the meeting
between the State PWD Minister and the Karnataka Chief Minister
to discuss the Cauvery water issue, the Chief Minister, Ms.
Jayalalithaa said here.
The Chief Minister refused to comment on the Karnataka Irrigation
Minister's statement that the State had no surplus water to spare
for Tamil Nadu, stating that she could not comment on the basis
of media reports. ``We prefer to wait for the Karnataka
Government's reply,'' she told reporters at the Secretariat.
Ms. Jayalalithaa had written to her Karnataka counterpart, Mr.S.
M. Krishna, seeking an appointment for a meeting with the
Minister and the Secretary of the State PWD. Mr. Krishna had sent
a reply stating that he would indicate the date for the meeting.
The Chief Minister added that the Cauvery Monitoring Committee
would meet in Delhi on September 6. ``We would like to wait for
the outcome of the meeting.''
