BJP asks Cong., TDP to stop sparring

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, AUG. 28. The State general secretary of BJP, Mr. P. Venugopal Reddy, has observed that both the Congress and TDP are provoking each other on the issue of their involvement in faction feuds in politics. He advised both the parties to work for the development of the State instead.

Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, he said the intensity of factional violence had increased after the gram panchayat elections. Attacking partymen, damaging properties including felling orchards had been the regular phenomenon in the recent weeks, particularly in Anantapur district.

Lack of irrigation facilities and lack of work was leading people to factionalism, he opined. Better implementation of Government programme would reduce the intensity of feuds in the Rayalaseema region, he said. Central Government programmes like food-for-work and others were not being implemented properly. A majority of rural population were lacking awareness on the schemes, he said.

He suggested that the Government to form mandal-level supervisory committees comprising all parties to watch the implementation of Government programmes. Several new schemes were being wasted due to inefficient implementation. He stated that the BJP would train party activists for creating awareness on Government schemes among people.

Mr. Venugopal Reddy said the State Government should take up the matter of the Telugu Ganga Project with the Central Water Commission for clearance. He stated that net water share of the State was likely to increase and it should be diverted to Rayalaseema.

The BJP leader also condemned the killing of Yadiki mandal parishad president, Mr. Bala Satishbabu. Asking the Government to punish the culprits severely, he noted that throwing challenges at each other by the main parties -- Congress and TDP was not a solution to the problem.

The State general secretary of BJP's minorities morcha, Mr. Arun Rajul, the district president of the party, Mr. P. Venkataramanappa, and others were present.
