Stop these 'murders'

Sir,- It is quite ironical that on the one hand our godowns are overflowing with surplus foodgrain stocks and at the same time people in Orissa and Himachal Pradesh are dying of hunger. What is more painful is the fact that politicians and bureaucrats are squabbling over these deaths to avoid responsibility. When rodents are allowed to eat away huge piles of foodgrain and people are left to die, no society can term these as deaths. These are brutal murders carried out by our politicians and bureaucrats, who are not performing their duties properly and are thus denying the people their right to life. They should be charged as such by our judiciary for their inaction.

Mohinder Yadav,
