Talent search
Catch them young... that seems to be the motto of the Lions Club
of Madras, Besant Nagar. The club has been promoting talent
competitions among school children for more than two decades now,
and on August 25 and 26, the club conducted the annual Talent
Promotion competitions. The competitions are being held for the
22nd year in succession.
Around 600 children from 35 city schools participated in the
painting competition held on 25 August and another 400, in
various other competitions held on August 26, including
oratorical (Tamil and English), Carnatic music, mono acting and
sloka competition.
The function was inaugurated by Sankara Pandian and presided over
by the president G. Sitaram.
The idea behind the endeavour is to provide relief to children
from the rigours of academic compulsions and offer a platform so
that they could lend a free rein to their imaginative and
creative skills.
Around 200 to 250 prizes will be given away to the winners at a
later date.
