Job zone

What's it like on the jobs frontline today? When the experts at the Jobstreet website were asked for their take on `what's hot and what's not' in the job market today - as reflected by their experience in handling one million resumes. Pankaj Khanna, vice president, Business Development and V. Subramaniam, General Manager, Marketing, provided these hints for job seekers:

Graduation is the basic qualification for most higher-level courses. But one must aim to be an all-rounder. This helps an individual to interact better with others and exposes him/her to group dynamics.

There are excellent courses in films, commercial art, journalism, advertising and PR. For the go-getters there are increasing opportunities in sales and marketing.

Constantly explore new areas that are coming up. Graphic design is still in vogue. Printing technology and packaging technology courses by specialised institutes need graduates.

Front line sales and marketing in the service industry, and financial services, whether MNCs or Indian also require graduates. What they look for is communication skills and good command over English.

With the boom in eCRM (Electronic Customer Relations Management) and call centres, graduates are very much in demand.

As for non-graduates, the options are limited. However, some companies don't mind the lack of qualification, if the candidate has other requisite qualities.
