Ties with India not China-centric, says Blackwill

By Atul Aneja

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 3. The United States views India as a key partner for promoting stability in Asia and the world, but its relationship with New Delhi is not driven by security concerns about China, its Ambassador-designate, Mr. Robert D. Blackwill, has said.

In his maiden address at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) forum, Mr. Blackwill, who is yet to present his credentials, asserted that the U.S. was not heading a ``unipolar'' world. On the contrary, it remained committed to building ``coalitions'' of like-minded countries to advance its values and interests. The U.S. was looking at building a ``pacific union'' of pluralist states, in which India was expected to figure, as a possible foundation for ``strategic collaboration'' in the future.
