Krishna Iyer refuses to chair panel for APHC visit
KOZHIKODE, SEPT. 3. The former Supreme Court Judge, Mr. V.R.
Krishna Iyer, today said,
he had refused to chair the reception committee formed by some
human rights organisations to welcome the All Party Hurriyat
Conference (APHC) leaders, currently on a visit to the State.
Addressing newspersons here, he said that he had told the
organisers that he could not head the committee unless he had the
full details of the activities of APHC and its leaders. ``The
issue involved is very sensitive and serious. People across the
country have various opinions about the outfit,'' he said.
Mr. Krishna Iyer, however, said he was ready to listen to the
speeches of the leaders, as there was nothing wrong in studying
their views. He said he could not attend tomorrow's reception for
APHC leaders here as he had other engagements in Kochi.
Meanwhile, the `Desha Raksha Vedi,' a combine of Sangh Parivar
outfits, has called for a hartal in the district tomorrow to
protest against the visit of APHC leaders to the city.
In a statement here, the Vedi convener, Mr. P.K. Sreekumar,
alleged that Muslim extremist groups were hosting the function of
APHC leaders. The APHC leaders, who are expected to reach here
tomorrow, would attend a meeting of social activists as part of
their awareness campaign.
