OBT implements SAP for Colgate unit in Nepal
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 3. Colgate-Palmolive has become the first
company in Nepal to implement SAP R/3 (ver 4.6C). The job was
done by Oak Brook Technolgoies (OBT), the Hyderabad based
subsidiary of Oak Brook Technologies Inc. (Chicago), for the
Nepal unit located in Hetauda Industrial City, Hetauda.
It also happens to be the first to be implemented as an `offshore
development' project, and went live in August. The OBT earlier
implemented SAP for four contract manufacturers of Colgate in
India - Sunshine Cosmetics, Crystal Cosmetics (both Hyderabad),
and Lumena Home Produxts and Sterling Home Products (both in
Goa), according to Mr. Ramesh Kodali, President, OBT.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Ramesh said OBT was
now focusing on `off shore developmental model', which was 30-40
per cent cost-effective for clients. Modules implemented for
Colgate are finance and controlling, sales and distribution,
materials management and production planning.
Explaining the model, he said the configuration was done through
the main server in the U.S. by OBT professionals in Mumbai.
After testing by Colgate Singapore, OBT moved to Nepal for final
(onsite) implementation. Colgate implemented SAP across its
companies worldwide, with the exception of a few units in the
Asia Pacific region.
With 75 professionals in India, OBT is promoting the concept of
remote consultancy centres (RCCs) for user support. It has ten
clients in Hyderabad and is talking to 15 in Mumbai, he said.
