Manipur House to be dissolved

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 4. The Union Cabinet today decided to recommend
to the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, dissolution of the Manipur
Assembly, clearing the decks for holding elections in the north-
eastern State, which has recently been in the grip of unrest,
political instability, financial crisis and violence.
At a meeting of the Union Cabinet, presided over by the Prime
Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, the recommendation made by
the Manipur Governor, Mr. Ved Marwah, for dissolution of the
Assembly was accepted.
