Jagmohan's removal 'celebrated'
By Lalit K. Jha
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 4. After the ``demolition man'' Mr. Jagmohan
took over as the Union Tourism Minister on Monday evening, a
lavish party was organised by builders and land mafia at a South
Delhi farm house to celebrate his removal from the Union Urban
Development Ministry.
It is understood that the party, held at a farm house located in
the Aya Nagar area of Mehrauli, continued till the wee hours of
Tuesday.
However, no city politician or official from civic bodies,
government or police were present at the party. Heaving a ``sigh
of relief'' over the removal of Mr. Jagmohan, those present on
the occasion took a decision to act in close cooperation with on
another and not in isolation as was the case so far.
Treating the removal of their ``Enemy No. 1'' as their grand
victory, the builders and `land sharks' feel that politically
none would have the courage to touch them at least till elections
to the civic body are over. ``Most of them would be coming to us
for donations. This is the best time for us to revive our
business,'' they concluded.
At the meeting, the builders and land mafia also decided to take
to task those officials who failed to protect them in their hour
of need. A particular mention was made of those who were involved
in the demolition of palatial buildings at Sainik Farm and
Andheria More last year and the Tughlakabad Fort complex this
year.
Arguing that the property market in the Capital had touched a
record low during the past one year and they had a difficult time
in selling them out, the meeting also concluded that they should
take a collective decision on the value of the properties in
various parts of the Capital.
Finally it was decided to not only thank, but also help those who
helped them in the ouster of Mr. Jagmohan from this Ministry, in
the coming elections.
