'Ashtamirohini' celebrations at Guruvayur temple

GURUVAYUR, SEPT. 4. This year's `Ashtamirohini' celebrations will
be held at the Sree Krishna Temple, here on September 10.
According to a Guruvayur Devaswom release, `Bhagavatha
Sapthaham', which is held every year along with the
`Ashtamirohini' celebrations will be begin at the temple
`oottupura' (dining hall) at 3 a.m. on September 6 with the
reading of `Mahathmya'. The `Sapthaham' will conclude on
September 13.
The `Sapthaham' is arranged in such a way that the reading of
the `Srikrishnavatharam' will be held on `Ashtamirohini' day.
There will be spiritual discourses at the Melpathoor Auditorium
on `Sapthaham' days soon after the `deeparadhana' in the
evenings.
On `Ashtamirohini' day, special `Kazhcha Sheeveli' will be held
in the morning and at noon and `Panchavadyam' (percussion
ensemble) and `nadaswaram' concerts will also be held.
The devaswom has made special arrangements for `Ashtamirohini'
day in view of the expected heavy rush of devotees. There will be
facilities for providing `sadhya' (feast) consisting of
`palpayasam' for the devotees who visit the temple on that day.
There will be a `Krishnanattam' performance at the Melpathoor
Auditorium here from 10 p.m. on that day.
There will be special facilities for holding main `vazhipadu'
like `appam' and `palpayasam' at the temple on `Ashtamirohini'
day, in view of the heavy orders for these `vazhipadus' on that
day.
The Guruvayur Devaswom will also hold special celebrations at
the temples under it like the Manggachira Vishnu Temple, Nenmini
Balarama Temple and the Poonthanam Vishnu Temple in Malappuram
district on `Ashtamirohini' day.
Chembai music festival
The Guruvayur Devaswom Governing Council has announced the
celebration of the annual Chembai Music Festival, held every year
in connection with the `Ekadesi'. This year's `Ekadesi' festival
falls on November 26.
Those interested in participating will have to apply on the
prescribed application form. The forms can be had from the
Devaswom office here from September 1 to 20, during working
hours. Only those applications in the prescribed format will be
accepted. Photostat copies or other copies will not be accepted.
Only those who are above the age of eight years and who have
been practicing Carnatic music continuously for three years need
apply. The application forms can be obtained through post by
sending a self-addressed stamped envelope till September 10.
Applications with self-addressed stamped envelopes should reach
the Devaswom office before 5 p.m. on September 20 with the cover
properly pinned.
