State teachers awards announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 4. The State teachers awards for the year 2001-2002 have been announced.

A press note issued here today said the award selection committee chaired by the Education Minister has selected 14 teachers in the primary section and 14 in the secondary section for the award. The awards will be distributed on the occasion of Teachers' Day on September 5.

While 45 applications were received for the primary sector, from various district selection committees, 47 were received for the secondary sector. Factors such as teaching experience, standing in society, teaching talent, interest in the profession, public life, relationship with students, dedication, initiative in curricular and extra-curricular activities and contributions to the education sector were among those taken into consideration while deciding the awards, the press note said.

The names of the award winners from each district in the primary and secondary sectors, are given in that order.

Thiruvananthapuram: Mr. N. Ramachandran Nair, headmaster, Government UPS Kariavattom; Mr. K.O. Thomas, Principal, St. John's Model HSS, Nalanchira.

Pathanamthitta: Mr. M. George, headmaster, St. Mary's SMM UPS, Adoor.
