Political victim
Sir, - It is sad that again a performer, Mr. Jagmohan, has become
a victim of political stalwarts who just work for their vested
interests. That this was done by a Government which claimed to be
`different' will have a long-lasting negative impact on Ministers
who actually want to perform. If this type of governance
continues, the breed of honest and hardworking people will become
extinct.
Arun Kant Gupta,
Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal

Sir, - The removal of Mr. Jagmohan as Urban Development Minister
is undoubtedly a severe blow to Ministers who work with
dedication. He was one of the few who had a strong political will
to implement things good for society. He removed illegal
constructions in Delhi and also strove to bring down air
pollution.
It is surprising that our Prime Minister, known for his clean
image, could not even protect the most dynamic Minister in his
Cabinet and instead yielded to pressure from some influential
quarters. How could Mr. Vajpayee protect Ministers who have
admitted that they were unaware of the scams in their Ministries
and show the door to Mr. Jagmohan who had been doing a great job.
The country needs someone like Mr. Jagmohan and his being shifted
leaves in doubt the future of such Ministers.

Thiruvananthapuram
