Apex Lab, Orchid Health to sign co-marketing pact

CHENNAI, SEPT. 4. The Chennai-based Apex Laboratories will be entering into a co-marketing agreement with Orchid Healthcare, a division of Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals.

Mr. S. S. Vanangamudi, Managing Director, Apex Laboratories, told The Hindu, that under the agreement, Apex would market a range of products sourced from Orchid Healthcare in the domestic market under its own brand name.

The company will be launching soon herbal products for improving memory and treatment of diabetes for which clinical studies have been completed.

Ayurvedic herbal preparations for treatment of liver disorders and the like are in the developmental stage. ``Clinical research works on herbal products are in progress under an MoU with the Kasturba Medical College and College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal,'' the MD said.

Apex would enter the herbal medical formulation market in specific therapeutical areas of treatment by developing formulations based on Siddha and Ayurvedha medical practices duly supported by proper scientific research and documentation through pre-clinical trials and multi-centric clinical trials.

Apex has developed seven herbal formulations for treatment of various therapeutical segments. It plans to launch the products commercially by 2002.

Apex is a leading manufacturer of formulations in Tamil Nadu. A state-of-the-art automated manufacturing facility of the company was inaugurated at the SIDCO industrial estate, Alathur, on Sunday.
