Bajrang Dal threat causes concern

By Manas Dasgupta

AHMEDABAD, SEPT. 4. The Bajrang Dal's threat to take the law into its hands if the authorities failed to control eve-teasing on the campus of the Gujarat College, run by the State Government, is causing concern to the authorities.

A senior State Home Department official said the Government would not allow the Bajrang Dal to create lawlessness by assuming its self-imposed role of social reformer.

The head of the local Bajrang Dal unit, Mr. Anil Dave, had sent a letter to the Minister of State for Higher Education, Mr. Bharat Barot, with a copy to the Gujarat University Vice- Chancellor, Mr. Naresh Ved, threatening action against the anti- social elements if eve-teasing was not curbed.

The college authorities, however, said they had not received any complaints from girl students. Even the girls, when asked, denied being harassed.
