CII offers to sort out Enron problem

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 5. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has now taken up the role of a facilitator to sort out the Enron tangle.

The Director-General of CII, Mr. Tarun Das, said today that the organisation would try to bring the promoter of the Dabhol Power Company, the Enron Corporation, financial institutions and the Maharashtra Government to the negotiating table and resolve the problem.

``We want a healthy Indo-U.S. relations and Enron is a problem in this. We have the experience of bringing Maruti and Suzuki Motors on one table and resolving the crisis in 1997. We are confident of bringing Enron and others also on one table now,'' Mr. Das said at a meeting organised by the CII here today.

Enron had sought the help of the CII and the organisation had agreed to be the interlocutor, Mr. Das said adding that the problem was expected to be resolved by the end of this month.
