Beware Apost virus
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, SEPT. 5. A new computer virus, Apost, has been
identified. It spreads through addresses in Microsoft Outlook.
The Internet worm comes in e-mails as an attachment named
Readme.exe.
When the attachment is opened, the worm copies itself to all
mapped drives including the C drive's root directory. It then
changes the registry settings to load every time the system is
started, according to a statement by Prognet Technologies.
The worm displays a dialog box with the title `Urgent'. When it
is opened, the worm will infect the system again and display a
false error message with the title `WinZip SelfExtractor:
Warning', and a message saying, `CRC error: 23421'. It then opens
the Microsoft Outlook address book and spreads to the stored e-
mails.
A free download is available to detect and clean the worm at
www.fireantivirus.com, the statement said.
