Official seeks last chance to act on complaint

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 5. People expressed utter disappointment over the callousness of officials apart from making complaints about shortage of buses on a few routes, problems arising out of open nalas and bad roads at the face-to-face programme aired live on cable networks on Wednesday.

Such was the impact of the anger expressed by one caller that the Additional Commissioner, Mr. Karikal Valevan, had to request him to give them one last chance to initiate action against his complaint. Mr. Shankar from Motinagar had lodged several complaints during the last two years regarding water stagnation on the road leading to Yousufguda and the incomplete work of the contractors.

However, no action was taken despite repeated assurances. An enraged Mr. Shankar wanted to know from the Labour Minister, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav, the reason for the delay in acting on his complaints. When the mike was passed on to Mr. Valevan, he pleaded with the caller to give them one more chance and promised that the work would be completed. His assurance seemed to have worked on Mr. Shanker whose anger dipped in no time.

Another caller from Lalapet threatened that the residents in all the colonies in the area would not pay bills till sufficient drinking water was supplied to them. According to him, the industries in the nearby areas were drawing more water and this resulted in shortage to the residents. He said a sump was sanctioned long ago but, the officials never showed interest in constructing them.

The shortage of buses on several routes dominated the programme. Mr. Lalit Kumar from Ashok Enclave, Kapra, sought new buses or additional trips at least. He said large number of students and employees reside in the area and the present services were not sufficient. Mrs. Suguna from Old Safilguda also requested for maintaining frequency and additional services.

Mr. Kishore from Amberpet asked the officials to shift the toddy compound as it was situated in a residential area. He said it was posing problems to women, particularly during the nights. Hawkers occupying footpaths, eve-teasing and illegal parking was also brought to the notice of officials. Mr. Dinakar Prasad, DCP (Traffic), promised action on the complaints.

Some complaints regarding lack of drainage lines were received from areas falling in the adjoining municipalities. Mr. Krishna Yadav said a plan to provide these municipalities with all the facilities had been taken up with the financial assistance of some external agencies and work would begin soon.
