Online payment of property tax soon

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 5. Payment of property tax will no longer be a drudgery. It will be just a click away. But, one will have to wait till October 15 to avail this facility.

The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) is moving into an e- governance era in association with www.billjunction.com, a portal of ICICI. Tax assesses can just register with the portal for online payment of property tax. The MCH will also be launching its own website which will enable one to access a host of services online. For instance, one can find out information about works, status of building permission, birth and death certificates, etc.

A demonstration on online collection of property tax was given by the billjunction.com to the MCH staff and presspersons here on Wednesday.

Mr. Rajendre Nimje, Additional Commissioner, Finance, MCH, told presspersons that the Corporation was the first civic body in the country to go in for online tax payment. It had already tied up with 35 branches of State Bank of Hyderabad in the city for property tax payment. Ultimately, 100 outlets will be provided for payment of tax. The MCH head office, circle offices and bank branches would shortly have wireless connectivity, he said.

Mr. Nimje said the Corporation would be allotting property tax identification number (PTIN) to all assesses in 254 localities in the city. These numbers were scientifically designed and would help easy access of information.

Explaining the advantages, the www.billjunction.com representative said customers could pay tax round the clock either through manual or auto pay mode. They would receive e-mail reminders about the property tax dues. The MCH also would be benefited with improved customer service, reduction in delayed payment and lesser cheque handling. Electronic bill presentment was a new concept and through it one could pay any number of bills of various departments.

The service had already been launched in nine cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore.
