Much ado about hairdos?
THE BAIT was beauty, and the bottom line, business. Naturally,
the hall was teeming with beautiful and beautified women, all set
to clear queries about their troublesome tresses. And
yes{hellip}as the show title proved, it was more to do with
"Trendy Tresses" than with those cascading curls nurtured by
grandma's time-proven kitchen concoctions.
With Bilofer, one of L'Oreal's hair experts, Kanya (the
destination for hair and skin care {frac12} well, that's what the
posters said) went all out to woo its burgeoning clientele with
mindboggling treatments that work on hair "scientifically".
Though some women were convinced by the slide show and live demo
about "Aminexil Control" (L'Oreal's new anti-hair loss treatment)
and the power dose programme, others were hardly carried away by
the wonder formulae.
Nevertheless, the interactive session delved deep into certain
aspects {frac12} like hair styling, colouring and blow-drying,
besides brushing up on problems relating to hair thinning.
"Stress, pollution, hormonal problems, scalp disorders,
diet{hellip}these are some of the important factors that result
in loss of hair", Bilofer said.
She went on{hellip} "The hair, which is fabricated by the
follicle thrives in a milieu of supple collagen. To ensure growth
in each new cycle, the follicle must be implanted firmly in the
scalp. When the collagen accumulates and rigidifies around the
follicle, its base prevents it (follicle) from being correctly
implanted in the scalp, thereby leading to premature hair loss.
Regular hair care, judiciously chosen products and a healthy
lifestyle can go a long way in enhancing the way one's hair
looks".
After all those hair-splitting technical details about hair care,
it was time for lights, camera and fashion! Yes{hellip} pretty
young "models" were all set to let their hair down at a snappy
show that hoped to showcase some hairstyles. As the girls
sashayed the ramp, it was clear that the beautiful braid had lost
out to classic bob. Well{hellip} not even a single youngster
sported a pleasant plait or a perky pony. It was smart blunt
cuts, pesky perms and trendy bobs all the way. Even the party
hairdos had a Western air{hellip} be it in terms of styling or
colouring. Auburn, chestnut, and mahogany{hellip} the hair hues
were rich and the streaking subtle. While the accent was on
short, manageable hair for children, it was on the gloss and
glamour for the youth. The models' hair had been styled at Kanya
with a slew of salon formulae, courtesy L'Oreal. And the makeover
magic was evident particularly in the party round. Lined up for
the finale were three elaborate hairdos that reflected creativity
at its weirdest best. Oh! The styles were truly anti-gravity,
with each one framing the face in a bizarre way. Throughout the
show, Kanya kept throwing in one offer after another. But as the
ladies trickled out, it was clear that though not really scissor-
shy, they still preferred their sink to the salons to work
wonders with their hair!
