Chandrashekar gets IT, Shivanna Information

BANGALORE, SEPT. 6. In a sudden and surprise move, the Chief
Minister, Mr. S. M. Krishna, has effected a reshuffle in the
portfolios of eight ministers.
The Minister of State for Information, Prof. B. K. Chandrashekar,
has been shifted to Information Technology, and Mr. Shivanna, who
held the portfolio of Minister of State for Finance, has moved
over to Information.
The Minister of State for Excise, Mr. M. M. Nanaiah, who held the
additional portfolio of Information Technology, retains only
Excise.
The other changes are the Minister of State for Small Savings,
Lotteries and Insurance, Mr. Babu Rao Chinchansoor, who held
Muzrai in addition, now loses Muzrai.
The Minister of State for Planning, Ms. Suma Vasanth, has been
given Muzrai in addition to her existing portfolio.
Mr. Veerakumar Appaso Patil, who was the Minister of State for
Energy (attached), has now been given independent charge.
There are no changes in the portfolios of Cabinet ministers.
However, two Cabinet ministers have been given additional
portfolios.
While the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. D. B.
Chandre Gowda, gets Urban Infrastructure Development in addition,
the Minister for Urban Development, Mr. B. B. Chimmanakatti, has
been made in charge of Urban Water Supply and Drainage.
According to government sources, the changes have been effected
by the Chief Minister keeping with the move to decentralise
power. The additional portfolios now allotted to two Cabinet
ministers were earlier held by the Chief Minister. The changes
are Prof. B. K. Chandrasekhar - Minister of State for Information
Technology; Mr. M. Shivanna - Minister of State for Information;
Ms. Suma Vasanth - Minister of State for Planning and Muzrai; Mr.
Babu Rao Chinchansoor - Small Savings, Lotteries and Insurance;
Mr. M. M. Nanaiah - Excise; Mr. Veerakumar Appaso Patil - Energy
(all independent charge).
Cabinet ministers: Mr. D. B. Chandre Gowda - Minister for Law and
Parliamentary Affairs and Karnataka Urban Infrastructure and
Finance Development Corporation; and Mr. B. B. Chimmanakatti -
Urban development and Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage
Board.
