Gang-rape of dalit girl: policemen held
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAIPUR, SEPT. 6. The Station House Officer of the Chalbuli
village police station in Sarguja district has been suspended and
four constables arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a
16-year-old girl last Thursday.
The incident took place when the victim, a dalit girl, was
reportedly kidnapped from her house by the four constables and
taken to the police quarters where she was allegedly gang- raped.
She was also photographed in the nude with the intention of
blackmailing her for further exploitation. When the victim and
her father, a village doctor, went to the local police station to
lodge a complaint, they were turned away by the SHO.
The two subsequently went to the district headquarters at
Ambikapur on Monday and met the S.P., following which a report
was lodged and action taken against the erring policemen.
