Geelani's Saudi visit grounded

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 8. The Centre has declined to grant permission to the All-Party Hurriyat Conference leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, to attend the fourth general Islamic Conference in Saudi Arabia beginning today, sources in the Hurriyat said.

Earlier in July, the former APHC chairman had applied for fresh travel documents.

Mr Geelani had written a letter to the External Affairs and Defence Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh, seeking his cooperation to participate in the conference at Makkah al Mukkarmah.
