PUCL seeks action against two cops
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, SEPT.8 The State committee of the People's Union for
Civil Liberties (PUCL) has demanded registration of attempt to
murder case against the Moinabad CI and the SI for the ``illegal
detention and torture'' of Indrapati Jangaiah (23) in the police
lock-up for 42 days from March 24 this year.
Messrs Jaya Vindyala, general secretary, Iqbal Khan, joint
secretary of the PUCL, Prof. K. Chakradhar Rao, City unit
president, and Mohd. Raziuddin, general secretary, at a press
conference here on Saturday sought protection to the man, payment
of ex-gratia and medical expenses.
They said Jangaiah was taken into custody by the Moinabad police
on a complaint of murder of his brother-in-law. Shankaraiah, but
the it was proved false ``when Shankaraiah was found alive.''
The PUCL leaders alleged that the victim was subjected to third-
degree torture and forced to drink urine of a co-detenu, when he
asked for water. A letter was also written by the PUCL to the
Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, in this regard.
