Forex reserves cross $45b mark
MUMBAI, SEPT. 8. India's foreign currency reserves have scaled a
new peak by crossing the $45 billion mark during the week ended
August 31. These swelled by $406 million to $45.36 billion in the
reporting week, according to the Reserve Bank of India's weekly
statistical supplement.
Foreign currency assets have increased to $42.54 billion, up $360
million, it said.
Gold reserves also grew by $46 million to $2,817 million while
special drawing rights remained unchanged at $ 4 million, the
apex bank said.
Loans and advances by RBI to the Central Government rose by Rs.
9,453 crores from a nil balance in the previous week while that
to the State governments increased by Rs. 378 crores to Rs. 4,190
crores.
In the fortnight ended August 24, aggregate deposits of scheduled
commercial banks rose by Rs. 5,311 crores to 10,30,139 crores.
