America under attack: World Trade Center Collapses
New York, Sept. 11. In one of the most horrifying attacks ever
against the United States, terrorists crashed two airliners into
the World Trade Center in a deadly series of blows on Tuesday
that brought down the twin 110-storey towers. A plane also
slammed into the Defence Department as the Government itself came
under attack.
Israel, India next?
Manama (Bahrain), Sept. 11. Israel has evacuated all diplomatic
missions around the world fearing that the attacks in the U.S.
might not mark the end of today's tragedies. The Palestinian
Authority President, Mr. Yasser Arafat, has been amongst the
first to issue a statement condemning the incident.
Bush vows to hunt down perpetrators
Florida, Sept. 11. The United States President, Mr. George W.
Bush, today vowed an all-out hunt for the authors of ``an
apparent terrorist attack'' after two planes smashed into the
twin towers of New York's landmark World Trade Center.
Did terrorists have their own pilots?
New York, Sept. 10. The terrorists, who apparently hijacked four
planes and attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon, could
only have succeeded by using their own trained pilots in a scheme
that defied all scenarios envisioned by national security
officials, terrorism experts said.
Smoke, shock spread over this city
New York, Sept. 11. The scene is truly tense in this city which
has had its share of terrorism eight years ago. In 1993 an attack
on the World Trade Centre left six dead and more than 1000
injured. But this time around no one is even tempted to make a
guess.
Woman without veil attacked
Srinagar, Sept. 11. Just a day after the expiry of the deadline,
two suspected Lashkar-e-Jabbar militants attacked a woman in the
heart of the city for not covering herself with a veil as
demanded by the outfit.
Assembly dissolved
Imphal, Sept. 11. The seventh Manipur Legislative Assembly, which
had been kept under suspended animation since early June, has
been dissolved by the President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan, with
immediate effect.
Masood sees no military solution
The Afghan leader, Mr. Ahmad Shah Masood, whose fate is unknown,
had warned in a recent interview that the Taliban and Osama bin
Laden represented a threat to world stability.
SP MLAs resign en masse in U.P.
Lucknow, Sept. 11. The Samajwadi Party members of the Uttar
Pradesh Legislative Assembly resigned en masse today in a bid to
force the BJP-led Government to hold early elections in the
State.
