By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 11. A delegation of Tamil Nadu Ministers and leaders of various political parties today called on the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, and the Congress president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, urging their intervention for release of Cauvery river water by Karnataka to save standing crops in the delta areas.

Led by the Tamil Nadu Education Minister, Mr. M Thambi Durai, and the Public Works Minister, Mr. N. Thalavi Sundaram, the delegation called on the President this evening requesting him to urge the Government intervene and help the State. The other members who accompanied them included, Mr. R Nallakanu (CPI), Mr. R Balakrishnan (CPI-M), Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar (Congress) and Mr. Rajangam (BSP).

Earlier, the delegation called on the Congress president, who said she had already discussed the matter with the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, when she was in Bangalore yesterday.

Mrs. Gandhi told the delegation that Karnataka had informed that the State was reeling under drought, a point which was countered by some members of the delegation who said that the State had received near normal level of rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area.
