Vedi seeks removal of RCC director
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 11. The EMS Samskarika Vedi has
demanded that the Chief Minister, Mr. A. K. Antony, take
immediate action to clear the controversies clouding the Regional
Cancer Centre.
The vedi chairman, Mr. V. S. Mathew, and the general secretary,
Mr. S. S. Mukundesh, told presspersons here today that Mr. Antony
as chairman of the centre should remove the director, Dr.
Krishnan Nair, from the post as had permitted the foreign doctors
to experiment with the banned drug on patients.
The committee appointed by the Central Government had said that
the experiment was illegal. Still the director was trying to
justify himself, they said.
The John Hopkins University had tried to open a research centre
in the State when the LDF was in power but the CPI(M) politburo
had stopped the move. The CPI(M) State leadership was remaining
silent on the issue. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. V. S.
Achuthanandan, who reacts on all issues is remaining silent on
the issue. The silence is deafening, they said.
Those who opposed the experiment have been described as persons
trying to destroy the centre. This was an attempt to save the
director. The vedi protested against mediapersons who had failed
to treat the issue with due gravity.
