TADA court grants bail to detenu
By Our Staff Correspondent
MYSORE, SEPT. 12. The Special TADA Court trying alleged gang
members of the forest brigand, Veerappan, on Wednesday granted
bail to one of the accused on personal surety.
The accused, Stella of Marthahalli in Kollegal taluk, was
arrested last month and produced before the court as ``a member
of Veerappan's gang''. Police filed charges against Stella saying
she was the wife of Sunda, alias Velliyan, an associate of the
brigand who was killed in a police encounter in 1993.
However, the Special TADA Judge heard Stella's bail application
filed by counsel for the detenus, Mr. Venugopal, and observed
that the court could not assume that she was part of Veerappan's
gang because she was the wife of a gang member. Upholding the
contention that she came from a poor family and had a child to
support, the court granted her bail on personal surety.
