Professional courses: HC upholds clause in prospectus

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, SEPT. 12. A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday upheld the clause in the 2001 prospectus for admission to professional courses, which said that candidates passing the qualifying examination in compartment/supplementary examinations will not be eligible for admission to professional courses.

The Bench, comprising Mr. Justice P.K. Balasubramanian and Mr. Justice M. Ramachandran, upheld the clause, while dismissing a batch of writ petitions challenging it. Certain petitioners who had taken the supplementary examinations had figured in the entrance examination ranklist.

The petitioners contended that because of these provisions, they had not been able to get admission to professional courses. In fact, their admission had been blocked by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations on the basis of the provisions in the prospectus.
