Beginning of anarchy
Sir, - This is in response to the report on the Bajrang Dal's
threat to take the law into its own hands if the Gujarat
Government failed to control eve-teasing in its colleges (Sept.
5). Behind the veneer of its concern are the Bajrang Dal's
intentions of dictating its own laws, not only to the people but
to the officialdom.
Only a fortnight ago, the Shiv Sena created a similar problem in
Thane. When one of its leaders died in a private hospital, the
Sena turned its ire on the hospital and indulged in arson and
vandalism and damaged property, making a mockery of public
decency and ethics. The Centre must note that these ``neo-
nationalists'' have donned a role of self-appointed ``culture
police'' without any respect for public order. If any group
assumes that it is competent to judge an issue and punish the
guilty, then it can only signal anarchy. Will the BJP at the
Centre please take note?
