Goodlass Nerolac to focus on decorative segment

CHENNAI, SEPT. 12. Goodlass Nerolac Paints is planning to play an aggressive role in the decorative segment even while maintaining its leadership in the industrial paints area with more than 40 per cent market share.

Launching a premium quality acrylic emulsion `Nerolac Allscapes 24 carat emulsion' here, on Sunday, Mr. H. M. Baruka, managing director of the company, said there was a huge market for decorative paints segment in India. Despite recession the company could increase its market share in the decorative paints industry to 14 per cent, he said.

In the automotive segment, all multinational companies except Hyundai were using Nerolac as the company was providing the entire painting system right from pre-treatment to final coating.

Keeping in mind the increased customer preferences and market trends, the company has launched `Colorscapes universe - an electronic eye. With the help of this system a customer can walk in with any shade and walk out with the right paint within minutes.

Mr. S. Krishnakumar, vice-president (South Zone), said the Chennai facility was continuously upgraded and the capacity increased to 30,000 tonnes annually. Out of the five strategically located manufacturing units, the Chennai facility was turning out 30 per cent of the total production he said.

Mr. Ashok Saini, vice-president (All India sales and marketing), said the company with a turnover of Rs. 750 crores was the second largest in India with 74 sales offices and distribution centres. The continued support from Kansai Paints Company, Japan, which was holding 65 per cent equity in Nerolac, would enable the company introduce new products and remain in the forefront of the industry.
