Cabins 'banned' in restaurants, cyber cafes

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR, SEPT. 14. Close on the heels of the warning by the Lashkar-e-Jabbar, another diktat came today from the Student Association, banning separate cabins in restaurants and cyber cafes.

In a statement issued to a local news agency, the Association spokesman asked restaurant and cyber cafe owners to stop promoting `immodesty' by having such cabins in their establishments. He said a three-member team had found that in restaurants and cyber cafes, boys and girls mixed freely under the garb of having snacks or using the Internet. It led to `immodesty' and degradation of moral values in Kashmiri society.

The spokesman asked the owners of these establishments to immediately close down such cabins as ``otherwise stringent action would follow''.

The police are yet to investigate the Association. It is not known whether it is purely a student organisation or has links with militants.
