Try Pak. Generals for training militants: Farooq
By Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR, SEPT. 14. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr.
Farooq Abdullah, today wanted Pakistan to be taught a lesson to
keep it from abetting terrorism. He also demanded trial of
Pakistani Generals in the International Court of Justice for
training militants. Dr. Abdullah, who inaugurated a two-day
conference of the State police here, said, ``Our battle is not
over; nor will it be over quickly as Pakistan continues to aid
and abet terrorism.'' Unless that country was taught a lesson,
there could be no peace in the region.
Accusing the Pakistan Army of running training camps for
militants, he said, ``These generals have to be brought to book
as they are training killers and perpetuating terrorism.'' He had
urged the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, to destroy the
training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, but the suggestion
was not taken seriously. If there was war with Pakistan, he
``will be in the forefront with an AK-47 rifle to take them on''.
He announced that the State Government would soon come with a
stringent law against terrorism. ``We are examining it to make
sure that the mistakes committed by other States are not
repeated.''
The Minister of State for Home, Mr. Khalid Najib Suhrawardy, the
Chief Secretary, Mr. Ashok Jaitly, the Director- General of
Police, Mr. A.K. Suri, and the Principal Secretary (Home), Mr. C.
Phonsog, were present.
