Karunakaran protests 'decision' on party posts
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 14. The senior Congress leader, Mr. K.
Karunakaran, today registered his strong protest against the move
to exclude MPs and MLAs from being considered for party posts.
Talking to presspersons soon after arriving from New Delhi, Mr.
Karunakaran asserted that the Congress Working Committee had not
taken such a decision. ``I don't know from whose brains the
proposal came,'' he said, when asked for his views about the
move.
Mr. Karunakaran wondered whether there was any disqualification
on being an elected representative. He said he would oppose any
such move and express his opinion as and when the KPCC revamp
list was announced.
Mr. Karunakaran denied reports that he was not given permission
to meet the Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi. ``I went to
Delhi to participate in the parliamentary committee meeting. I
did what I usually do - inform her about my arrival. I had not
sought any interview with her. And I am not in the habit of
complaining about it. I was able to gather that she was busy with
UP affairs and the terrorist attacks in the U.S.,'' he said.
He said he was unaware about the reasons for delay in finalising
the KPCC revamp list. He said that, to the best of his knowledge,
no names had so far been finalised for the various party posts.
Mr. Karunakaran did not seem to be in his best spirits, but he
did venture out with his usual caustic remarks.
