Court official trapped
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 14. An Additional Public Prosecutor of the City
Criminal Courts, V. Nageswara Rao, was today caught in the net of
the Anti-Corruption Bureau, when he demanded and accepted a bribe
of Rs. 5,000 from a person acquitted in a criminal case to
furnish a favourable opinion.
The tainted amount was recovered from the files of the office
room of the accused, according to a press release. The accused
was arrested and later released on bail.
The complainant, a resident of Habsiguda, was one of the accused
in a case of wrongful confinement under the West Maredpally
police station limits. While the complainant was subsequently
acquitted, the other accused were convicted. Nageswara Rao's
opinion was required with regard to filing an appeal in the High
Court over the acquittal of the complainant.
The accused prosecutor sent a message to the complainant and
demanded Rs. 10,000 from the latter to give a favourable opinion
and after bargaining agreed to accept Rs. 5,000.
